Congrats to winter mini-league winners, Team Seig, and close runners-up, Team Vogelsang. Team Sieg: Lyle Sieg, Barry Ivy, Candace Seip and Paul Dion. Team Vogelsang: Thomas Vogelsang, Steve Bollinger, Stefan Buettcher and Kelly Bloom.
Loreen is taking orders now for the new uniform jacket! This is the first time we've done this and there were several reasons: 1. so club members have something cool to wear when they're curling or teaching, 2. so club competitors can save money by not having to purchase a jacket for every playdown. The club is planning to purchase a few jackets that can be rented and that will have velcro on the back to attach a last name, if you choose not to buy, but the size choices will be limited. Purchased jackets will have your first name stitched on the front, as well.
Our local gal, Loreen Makishima-Wolf, won the recent USCA contest to be the honorary skip of the US Olympic curling teams. Full story on the USCA web site: http://www.curlingrocks.net/news.php?news=128
This is the first of at least 2 stories that will air about the club on KNTV - our local NBC station. Check out the video!
SFBACC Pacific International Cup playdowns are underway. Last night, in game 1 of the best-of-three series, Team Sieg defeated Team Halpenny. Team Sieg: Lyle Sieg, Barry Ivy, Brian Zaitz, Mason Kong. Team Halpenny: Brent Halpenny, Mike Greenberg, Takashi Okada and Brian Patrick.
We had a visit on Tuesday from a photographer, Jeff Cable, who will be working at the Olympics. He was out at the club to get a feel for the sport and how to shoot it. He writes about it on his blog. Thanks to all who helped make him feel welcome!
Just under 20% of the club will be competing in the MoPac Mixed Nationals playdown this weekend. Good luck to: Brent Halpenny, Loreen Makishima, Stacey MacNeil, Mike Loomis, Stephen Marschall, TC Altus, Alice Mansell, Lyle Sieg, Gabrielle Coleman, Barry Ivy, Candace Seip.
The event will feature 6 teams and a brutal schedule. The round-robin of 10 ends games begins Friday night at 11:30 pm (or thereabouts.) Follow along on the Granite Curling Club's web site.
