5 and Under Bonspiel 2012

hey all,
just a heads up that it looks like i'll get a 5-under 'mopac' championship off the ground in the spring of 2012!!
dates and location are tbd.
however, seattle and roseville are possibilities.
we are looking to do this single gender style w/men's and women's teams.
it's possible we will have some instruction as well.
so....start thinking a bit about this!

fyi - '5-unders' are meant for those curlers with 5 yrs experience or less. this will be a great way to transition to bigger tournaments (club nat's, etc) in a friendly competitive mopac only environment!

5 and Under 2012 means...started curling in 2007?
Hi Michael,
Just wanted to clarify the eligibility 'Year' since I think some of us cannot do the 5 And Under in 2012.
I am willing to assist where possible for the 5 and Under event.
Thanks for getting this going - should be a lot of fun for all the eligible curlers in the SFBACC.

update here....
i believe that we are 99% a go for a 5-under this year!
the competition will be held sometime between jan 13 and april 16.
...one more city has entered the fray here
...very much hoping this will all become 'final' in the next 2-3 weeks!!

loreen, you're right we'll need to formalize 'eligibility' for 5-under.
generally, they go by 'season' and min games played in that season.
[most clubs run on a fall-spring 'season'...but, we'd say begin fall-end summer (maybe begin summer-end spring?)
2011-12, would be 5th year let's say
2010-11, 4th
2009-10, 3rd
2008-09, 2nd
2007-08, 1st
...min games out east (by def) usually is about 10.
so, if you've played 10 in 2007-2008...that would start the clock.
i think for west coast curling we might have to 'lower' the min games...but, that would be decided by the committee.
...that would likely give most all mopac players 2yrs (this year) and 3 more years of eligibility.
