***All our Olympic events dates are on the following web page: www.bayareacurling.com/olympics This list is definitive. If it conflicts with some other listing, the other listing is wrong.***
***There have been conflicting emails with plans and dates for meetings. This is the definitive email/date/time list.***
Tuesday, January 12, 7:30 pm, San Jose -- Olympic Planning Meeting -- In short, this meeting will cover: planning for volunteers, supplies, merch sales, crowd management, for Olympic clinics; also general planning for curling watch parties, and discussion of March lesson mini-series, if time permits. There is a more detailed list of tentative topics for this meeting - email email@example.com to be sent a copy.
Wednesday, January 13, 6:30 pm, Oakland -- Oakland Olympic Planning Meeting -- This meeting will discuss dates/volunteer staffing for clinics and make plans for lesson series/leagues. RSVP firstname.lastname@example.org
Tuesday, January 19, 7:30 pm, San Jose -- Board Meeting -- This will cover more Olympic prep topics, as well as freezers and other general issues.
We have received a lot of interest in the press and will be sending out press releases and "community calendar" submissions shortly. We will also be releasing basic flyers soon for you to post at work and around town. In a related note, as a result of the AP story a few weeks ago, Vernon Davis was named the honorary captain of the men's Olympic curling team.
Some of the news organizations that have done or will be doing stories on the club: AP (Vernon Davis video and print); NBC (Vernon Davis, and they will be at league on the 12th to tape two pieces on the club itself; also several of our curlers will likely do phone/web reports for them from the Olympics); Atomic Productions (a commercial production group shot two PSAs for the USCA about Vernon Davis); SF Chronicle (expected to print on Sun or thereabouts); Conde Nast Magazine (listing dates & times to try curling); SF Examiner ("Personal Best" will feature Matthew and Patrick); Comcast Sports Net (Vernon Davis - will come to shoot video of club on Jan 12); Harker School student newspaper (will have reporters with us on Jan 19). I've probably forgotten some, but that's the start and that's without really trying to get coverage. We hope to get something - at least calendar listings - with the other major and local papers in the area.
A final note - this is our once-every-four-years chance to build our membership. Please remember all the time that others volunteered to teach you, and come out and help the club at this critical time! Emails will go out in the next week or two requesting volunteer commitments for clinics and classes. Thank you so, so much for your help!!!
