“Intro to Strategy” and “Intro to Skipping” are two new classes to help curlers grow and gain confidence on the ice. “Intro to Strategy” focuses on why to pick a shot, and “Intro to Skipping” talks about how to play it. These classes are designed to work together. It may be helpful - but is not necessary - to take Strategy first.
Introduction to Skipping (Note: this is an online/virtual-only clinic)
Now that you’ve got a strategy plan, how do you make it happen on the ice? This class covers the nuts and bolts of skipping, including:
Timing*
How to choose a hit weight
How to estimate hit ice
Which turn to take
Tips for calling line and learning the ice
Rules and etiquette for skips
Duration: 2 hours max (may be shorter depending on partipation and questions)
(*This class explains hog-to-hog and short/split timing with a focus on converting between different types of times and estimating weights - the kind of estimates skips use to get ready for their own draws. The “Sweeping and Timing” clinic teaches timing basics with a focus on sweepers' on-ice practice, including comparing your timing accuracy with light gate timers.)
